Allen EckerAs Executive Vice President, Dr. Allen Ecker plays a vital role as an advisor and strategist, working in close contact with CEO Jim McDonald and the members of the Corporate Management Committee (CMC) and the Corporate Operating Committee (COC) on key initiatives to develop, execute and communicate strategies to address dramatic changes in the telecommunications and broadband markets that are affecting both Cisco’s and our customers' businesses.
Dr. Ecker has been with Scientific Atlanta (now Cisco SPVTG) since 1976 and has held a number of executive positions. Prior to his current position, he was president of the Subscriber Sector where his responsibilities included definition, development, integration, testing and marketing of Scientific Atlanta’s Subscriber products and systems. The resulting End-to-End Digital Video Delivery System and Settops produced significant growth for Scientific Atlanta during that period.
Prior to joining Scientific Atlanta, he was an in-house systems analyst with the Air Force Systems Command. In addition, he served as Director of the Applied Engineering Laboratory at the Georgia Tech Research Institute.
Ecker received B.E.E. and M.S.E.E. degrees from Georgia Institute of Technology and a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Ohio State. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is a member of Eta Kappa Nu, Tau Beta Pi, Phi Kappa Phi, Omicron Delta Kappa, and Sigma Xi. He is also a well known telecommunications industry spokesman, has over 80 major publications and has served as chairman of many industry technical and standards committees.
In 1995 Dr. Ecker was selected as "Innovator of the Year" by Southeastern Cable Television Association (SCTA) for his leadership in the new digital video technology. Another prestigious award followed in October 1999 when he was inducted into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia for his significant contributions to the high technology community in the state of Georgia. In 2004, he received national recognition with an Award for Leadership in Interactive Television at the National NCTA conference and in 2005 he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award for Innovation by the Atlanta Telecom Professionals.
Ecker was appointed by Governor Miller to the
Georgia Information Technology Policy Council and
served as Chairman of the Georgia Radio
Communications Committee. He is a member of the
Board of Trustees for the Georgia Tech Foundation
and was inducted into the Georgia Tech Engineering
Hall of fame and the Georgia Tech Athletic Hall of
Fame.
