Abstract
It is evident that the cable industry must create new revenue
streams outside of the established digital video arena in
order to sustain strong growth. Cable operators have organized
a successful foray into the commercial services market with
assistance from leading cable
technology manufacturers. They have been able to leverage the
substantial investment in infrastructure that they had laid
out in support of residential services during the late 1990's
to generate an expected $1.5B in revenue for CY05 - a
successful example of revenue
expansion outside the traditional residential subscriber base.
With the launch of new technology platforms, cable operators
have been able to offer SLA-based Ethernet and circuit-based
voice and data T1s, representing the largest class of
commercial service revenue opportunities, over their existing
HFC plant.
