Upgrade Notes Release 1.4+ to Release 3.0

Scientific Atlanta's TNCS developers have been busy adding many new and enhanced features to the latest release of TNCS. TNCS 3.0 includes all of the following features that have been added and/or enhanced from the TNCS 1.4+ that you are currently running.

  1. New Protocol / Devices - TNCS has added protocols to monitor and control:
    - ADC DV6000, Homeworx, Optiworx product lines,
    - Motorola Omnistar and GX2 product lines, and
    - BarcoNet product lines.
  2. HMS Compatibility - TNCS is now compatible with the Hybrid Management Sublayer (HMS) standard from the SCTE. Compatibility with this new standard allows TNCS to manage and control any vendors HMS transponders.
  3. Alarm Filter - Every alarm parameter on every device now has an Alarm Profile that allows the operator to filter (delay) the alarm when an alarm condition occurs. This delay can be anywhere from 1 sec to 18 hours. This helps to eliminate nuisance alarms.
  4. Device Notes Icon - Each device can have a text file associated with the device that allows the TNCS operators to record information about the device; i.e. problems found, problems resolved, in service date,... When a notes file is created for the device a new notes available icon will appear on the detail screen for that device. The operator can access the notes file by simply double clicking the icon.
  5. Enhanced Naming - Groups and devices can now have longer names (up to 20 characters) and can start with numeric characters and/or consist of only numeric characters. In addition 20 levels of parent / child grouping is now supported.
  6. Page on Clear - TNCS will now send a page when an alarm clears.
  7. Enhanced Online Add / Delete - Equipment and groups can be added to the devlist while TNCS is online and active without stopping and starting the program. In previous versions of TNCS whenever this feature was used, the devlist file was automatically modified and all of the device specific information was removed with the exception of the device type and device name. This enhancement allows a new group or device to be added without stripping out any information from the devlist file.
  8. Enhanced SNMP Manager & Agent - TNCS supports both Northbound and Southbound SNMP communications with TRAPS, GETS and SETS.
  9. Alarm Synchronization - A new command has been added to the TNCS MIB that will regenerate a TRAP for all active alarms. This command is used when the connection between TNCS and the overall network management system is broken or lost. When the network management system reestablishes communication with TNCS, it can request that all active alarms send a trap.
  10. Printing - Any of the device / group detail screens and reports can now be printed.
  11. More Email and Pager Accounts - Up to 64 individuals, each with an email and/or pager, can be assigned to one or more of the 16 notification group to receive alarm information.
  12. Diverse Notification – This new feature allows the operator to select between two different alarm notification groups for each parameter on a device.
  13. Web Browser Client – A technician can now client into TNCS with the use of a standard web browser.  The need for special TNCS client software installed on laptops and remote computers is eliminated.
  14. Windows XP Compatibility – Server and client applications can now be hosted on Windows XP-Professional operating systems.
  15. ROSA EM Compatibility – In systems where the new ROSA EM site manager is used, TNCS will interface and function seamlessly with each ROSA EM in the network.  TNCS can provide the operator with an overall network view and aggregate alarms and alarm notifications, retain historical logs and perform multi-site back up.
  16. Support for New Devices – Support for new and legacy devices is continually being added to TNCS.  To review the latest list of supported devices visit the Supported Device page.
  17. Encoder Backup – Automatic backup scripting is now available for the D9030, D9032, D9050 encoders.
  18. Hot Key Feature – TNCS Web Client supports easy navigation from the Active Alarm Report window to the alarming Device Details window.
  19. Highlighted Device Detail Tab – Added “Highlight” to the Alarm Information tab in the Device Detail window for the TNCS Web Client
  20. Web Client On Line Add/Delete – the online add/delete function is now available on the TNCS web client.

Purchasing the upgrade to TNCS 3.0 will put all of the above feature enhancements at your fingertips, saving you time and money. Paying for the upgrade many times over in the first year alone.
